This year’s nominee leaders are pop star Lady Gaga and Eminem.
Gaga racks up a whopping 13 nods, including Best Pop Video, Best Female Video, and Video of the Year at the 27th annual show. She also claims bragging rights with the most nominations ever in a single VMA, as well as being the first female artist nominated for two different videos in the Video of the Year category for "Bad Romance" and "Telephone" featuring Beyonce. Eminem follows his labelmate with eight nominations including Best Male Video and Video of the Year for "Not Afraid."
Following today’s announcement, Em released a playful statement sharing his reaction.
"Apparently MTV doesn’t care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMAs. F me, right?!?!," says the rapper, who’s up for Best Male and Best Hip Hop Videos. "I mean, I’ll be there but don’t expect me to be nice about it." (PEOPLE)
Aside from artists like Jay-Z competing for "Best Hip-Hop Video" for "On To The Next One," this year’s showcase will give rap stars like Minaj and Drake an opportunity to win.
