G-Unit To Release “Return of the Bodysnatchers” Mixtape (Update: Cover Included)

According to 50 Cent, a new G-Unit mixtape entitled "Return of the Body Snatchers" will be released on Monday, Feb. 4. As usual DJ Whoo Kid will host, and there should be the expected contributions from the G-Unit camp. So far the songs "Paper Chaser" and "Southside Nigga (I’m Leavin’)" have been released via 50 Cent’s online community.
While playing the song "Paper Chaser," 50 stated that snippets, and most likely a track listing, will be released over the weekend.

As for the mixtape itself, 50 says, "Y’all gone have to get it off the street like everybody else." It is unclear if the mixtape will serve as a prelude to 50’s next solo album, which is tentatively titled Before I Self Destruct, or the upcoming G-Unit album, entitled Shoot To Kill.

Prodigy Bids Farewell, G-Unit Hosts Sendoff Concert In NYC

Mobb Deep MC Prodigy will bid farewell to the free world during a sendoff party and concert next Wednesday (Feb. 6) at B.B. King’s Blues Club & Grill in New York City.

Dubbed the "All Star QB + G-Unit Tribute to Prodigy," the party will feature P performing his latest solo release, H.N.I.C. 2, in its entirety. Unnamed special guests are also scheduled to appear.

Prodigy (born Albert Johnson) is preparing to do a three-and-a-half-year bid for weapons charges after being caught with a loaded, unregistered .22-caliber gun in his $150,000 bulletproof SUV in 2006.

He was originally scheduled to report to prison in January, but was granted a five-week extension, reportedly to give his doctors time to assemble his medical records in light of the fact that he suffers from sickle cell disease.

Swizz Beatz Working On New Bangers For 50 Cent, Usher & More

If you thought DMX was full of bull about doing his gospel album, he’s apparently not. The Dog is still working on the project, which will be a double-LP of traditional X and nonsecular tunes called Walk With Me Now, Fly With Me Later. He’s barking at two of the most influential producers in the game right now: Pharrell Williams and longtime collaborator Swizz Beatz.

"I’m helping him out with it," Swizz said Tuesday in New York. "I just hooked him up with Pharrell for the gospel joint."

Not even a month into ‘08, and Swizz already has his hands full with just-released music and tracks that are ready for the next few months. He’s most excited about a reunion of the Ruff Ryders for their first family album. It will include himself, X, the LOX and Drag-On — all the originals who first exploded 10 years ago.

Beanie Sigel & Freeway Still Signed To Roc-A-Fella, Says Manager

Despite allegations by former Roc-A-Fella artist Peedi Crakk, Def Jam has not dropped Beanie Sigel and Freeway from its roster.

According to Peedi, he was called into a Philly studio along with State Property cohorts Beanie Sigel and Freeway and told by a Def Jam A&R that they’d been dropped.

But Beanie Sigel’s manager, Mark Byers, told Billboard that Beanie and Freeway still call Roc-A-Fella home.

"Beans and Freeway didn’t get dropped," Byers said. "I just got off the phone with L.A. Reid talking about the next video for ‘Rain’ featuring Raheem DeVaughn that we’re about to release. We’re re-launching Beanie’s project and releasing a ‘Rain’ remix with State Property."

Joell Ortiz Not Dropped From Aftermath?

Don’t believe everything you hear. Especially if the one airing the business doesn’t know what he’s talking about says Brooklyn rapper Joell Ortiz. After rumors when swirling about his departure from Aftermath records, the rapper is finally setting the story straight.

"I didn’t get a chance to tell it the way I wanted to tell it because a person who didn’t know about the situation commented on it," Joell said in a recent interview with Hip-Hop insider Miss Info.

Former labelmate, Bishop Lamont, leaked Ortiz’s business during a recent radio interview, saying that he got dropped from Aftermath. Not true, says Joell.

"It was just someone speaking about a situation they know nothing about. Me and Dr. Dre deal the way me and Dr. Dre deal.," Joell said. "It’s all good, he just didn’t know what he was talking about."

Turns out Joell wasn’t dropped from the label, he actually asked for a release.
